Think about it: when a person is too heavily involved with any one of these phases--too stuck in the past, living in the moment with no regard for the consequences, or preoccupied so much by the future that they are forever missing the moment--it is typically regarded as a negative thing. Why? Because it impedes progress and hinders our ability to get the bigger picture.
